Title:
General EAP and Domain-Based ESP at Japanese Universities: Recent Developments and Challenges for EFL Teachers

Outline:
As English education at Japanese universities continues to diversify, EFL teachers are increasingly expected to support students across a wide range of academic and disciplinary contexts. In addition to General EAP courses that develop basic academic literacy, many institutions now offer domain-based ESP courses such as EST, English for Engineering, Medical English, Business English, English for Tourism, and Research English for graduate students. At the same time, the growing influence of EMI, internationalization, AI technologies, and research publication demands have created new opportunities and challenges for classroom instructors and curriculum designers.

This roundtable aims to bring together university teachers and researchers from various settings / SIGs to discuss recent developments in General EAP and domain-based ESP education in Japan and to explore future directions for teaching, curriculum design, materials development, educational technology, assessment, and research.

Participants are encouraged to share their experiences, challenges, successful practices, and research findings. The discussion will be interactive and open to all teachers and researchers interested in EAP and ESP in higher education.

This event is co-organized by IGTEE Research Station of UEC Tokyo.

テーマ：一般EAPと分野別ESP：EFL教員にとっての最近の動向と課題

概要：
日本の大学における英語教育はますます多様化しており、EFL教員には、さまざまな学術分野や専門分野において学生を支援することが求められるようになっています。基礎的なアカデミック・リテラシーを育成する一般EAP（English for Academic Purposes）科目に加え、多くの大学では、EST（English for Science and Technology）、工学英語、医療英語、ビジネス英語、観光英語、さらには大学院生を対象とした研究英語などの分野別ESP（English for Specific Purposes）科目を提供しています。また、EMI（English-Medium Instruction）の拡大、大学の国際化、AI技術の急速な発展、研究成果の国際発信に対する要求の高まりなどにより、授業担当教員やカリキュラム設計者は新たな機会と課題に直面しています。

本ラウンドテーブルでは、さまざまな教育機関やSIGに所属する大学教員・研究者が一堂に会し、日本における一般EAPおよび分野別ESP教育の最近の動向について議論するとともに、教育実践、カリキュラム設計、教材開発、教育テクノロジー、評価、および研究の今後の方向性について意見交換を行います。

参加者の皆様には、それぞれの教育現場における経験、課題、成功事例、研究成果などをご共有いただければ幸いです。本ディスカッションは参加者同士の対話を重視したインタラクティブな形式で行い、高等教育におけるEAPおよびESPに関心をもつ教員・研究者であればどなたでもご参加いただけます。

本イベントは、電気通信大学 IGTEE（Research Station of Global and Innovative Tertiary English Education）との共催で開催されます。
